As web browser I use normally Mozilla. This browser has still some problems like the long startup time but it introduced as well great features. The startup delay is caused by the huge code amounts needed to be loaded before the first use. This was most probably the reason for a big change in the Mozilla organisation (German!). Is it the end of the Mozilla experiment? Most probably it will. It is not easy to give this browser suit a meaning of life in the eyes of a normal citizen. The Windows operating system and the major Linux / Unix window manager bring their own browsers. Nowadays it is not necessary to download a 12MB package only to browse the net and to write courielles. For sure Mozilla is mightier. There is much You can do with this browser suit. You can even use it as a development platform (XUL Planet or MozDev) but this features are used only by a minority of the Mozilla users. For netscape it was not possible anymore to conquer back the masses they lost to Microsoft. Now AOL is in charge and AOL made it official that the Internet Explorer is the standard browser for his on-line service. This is maybe good for the customers who don't need to learn a new piece of software but it is as well the death sentence for this project.
Somehow I feel sad about this. This suit was - no, is - interesting.
