Belarus
One month Iran was not enough. After a very short visit at home in Germany my friend and me departed more or less immediately for the last remaining dictatorship in Europe: Belarus. In the Reich of Lukaschenko we have good friends and we planned to visit them since a long time. The family we wanted to visit is partly Belarussian and Ukrainian, so we decided to visit Ukraina as well. Our trip should lead us first to Brest very close to the Polish border. There my friend will try to find people who can fix his car. I think it is not necessary to write, why he wants to do this ;-) After that we will travel to Odessa, the famous harbour city at the Black Sea. My grandfather was very excited, when he heart that we wanted to visit Ukraina. In the Second World War he was part of the troops there. So he has a lot of memories of this country. Hopefully I will have a lot of pictures which I can show him afterwards. If we travel back from Odessa to Brest or if we head directly home after the visit of this town is not clear yet. Time will tell.
The travel to Belarus was quit unspectacular. We started for two days in the night (Tuesday morning at 2 a.m.). First we visited our capital to get the last remaining visa, the Ukrainian ones. After that we headed for Poland. Behind Warsaw we slept in a pretty nice Motel for 25 Euro (including breakfast). Next day was planned for the border. The Belarussian border is famous for the time You need to get through it. It is more or less a remaining part of the old socialist times and it is in the most cases very time intensive. This time we were lucky. After three hours and a small "present" for the people working there we were through it. The first time we had to wait 3 hours only for the check, if our car was not stolen.
This turbo mode at the border brought us very fast to Brest, there Bortsch and the first vodka was waiting for us.
