Taranaki CCPP is powering again the TRANSPOWER grid. Hope it will do well, hope it will cover coming frequency incidents, hope it will run as long as possible, hope I will see it again some day.

Finally the Taranaki CCPP is handed over to the customer again. If everything works like planned the machine will be opened again sometime in 2008. Till then a lot of ALSTOM engineers will not see the inspiring sunsets behind Mount Taranaki. I will miss it - even before leaving (I will have some more days for luck).

Es ist schon ein Thema für sich: Rauchen. In Deutschland wird es verteidigt wie ein Grundgesetz-Artikel. Nun, ich rauch auch mal ab und zu. Diese Freiheit nehm ich mir. Doch muss ich Rücksicht nehmen, denn nicht jeder mag den Blauen Dunst. Und zu Recht: Rauch stinkt, Rauch ist unangenehm in der Lunge, Rauch schädigt die Lunge, Rauch versaut Klamotten, usw. und das eben nicht nur beim Raucher. Will man in Deutschland Nichtraucher besser schützen, dann kann man sich sicher sein, dass man massive Kritik erntet. Gerade erst sieht man das an den Schulen, wo Lehrer und Schüler zusammen gegen die Nichtraucherschule vorgehen! Argumente für Nichtraucherzonen werden gekontert mit: Dann rauchen Raucher eben woanders aber nicht weniger. Stimmen solche Argumente?
In Neuseeland ist Rauchen in jeglichem öffentlichem Gebäude verboten. Dazu gehören auch Restaurant und Kneipe. Zigaretten-Automaten können nur benutzt werden, nachdem sie vom Barpersonal freigeschaltet wurden (Schutz Minderjähriger). Eine Schachtel Zigaretten kostet immer über 10NZD (gute 8 Franken). All diese Massnahmen haben offensichtlich Erfolg: Ich hab noch nie so wenig Leute rauchen sehen wie hier in Neuseeland. Schlechte Karten also für Raucher. Ihre Argumente sind einfach nur gelogen.

Grossmächte sind arrogant. Z. B. ist es für sie selbstverständlich, Atomwaffen zu besitzen. Nur ist das eben so eine Sache. Die netten Dr. Tods bauen immer noch ausgefeiltere Bomben und die wollen von waffengeilen Militärs getestet werden. Doch wo testet man einen 20-Megatonnen-Vorschlaghammer? Sicher nicht in Frankreich, Schottland oder Nevada. Die Kinder der netten Wissenschaftler und Generäle könnten ja Leukämie bekommen. Also verseucht man eben mal kurz den Pazifik. Da wohnen ja nicht viele und die, die doch so blöd sind und im Nichts wohnen wollen, haben ja eh nichts zu sagen. Also testete auch die Grand Nation fleissig Waffen, die in einem realen Konflikt sowieso nicht eingesetzt werden können. Und als Neuseeland die Frechheit besass, die Rainbow Warrior auf ihren Protestfahrten in ihren Häfen einlaufen zu lassen, wurde eben diese mal schnell vom französischen Geheimdienst versenkt. Die Beziehungen froren ein. Heute scheinen Atomtests vorerst der Vergangenheit anzugehören. Auch vergisst man schnell. Doch irgendwie spukten mir diese Sachen gerade heute wieder im Kopf rum. Wieso? Weil ich gerade fleissig Geld aus der französischen Staatskasse (ALSTOM-Gehalt) in Neuseeland verschwende. Sozusagen Reparationen für die Arroganz. Da macht Wasting Money so richtig Spass ;-)

I should not forget the sunset at the White Cliffs - it ended a nearly perfect day.











Time now for me, guys!

For a geologist the White Cliffs can be quit interesting. Here he can see the sedimentation and the force of nature.



And he can see the product of long tough work nature does all time - the sand.



To be the only visitor of a some kilometer long beach is a strange and nice feeling and worth all the efforts it takes.



Okay, we were not really alone ;-)

If the waves go the mirror image is coming.

The beach was covered with fine black sand. Perfect to walk barefoot. The views were beautiful. I like the sea and this was definitely what I wanted at this time. It was much more better than the visit of the Waitomo Caves and the Caves were great as well.

After the interesting excursion to the Waitomo Caves we made a stop at the famous White Cliffs a little bit up to the North from New Plymouth. The beach can be accessed only during low tide.



Kiwiland is a paradise. One of the reason for this fact is the population size. There are far more sheeps than Kiwis. This makes life great here. If people have sucked You (like me a fucker in Baden yesterday) You only have to walk/drive some kilometers and You see noone at all. But maybe a sheep is accompanying You ;-)



The cliffs looking wonderful from above. Again nothing breathtaking, New Zealand is not breathtaking at all, but something very nice and good looking.





The sea is chewing the coastline. Nothing is meant forever, here it is really visible.



The descent was not that easy. We found no real path so we took something which looked like one. It was steep but it worked and finally we were able to get out of the shoes and enjoy beautiful fine black sand.
